I'm a co-founder of this club. I bought my first investment rental property many years ago and now work with my husband, Daniel St-Jean, in our real estate investing company where we specialize in rent-to-own plus some buy & hold and pre-construction condos. After over three decades working (and traveling) in the consulting world, I now travel to WHERE I want WHEN I want and for as LONG as I want (pandemics permitting!) My passion is wine and travel – in 2014, we moved to Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario where I studied full time wine-making and viticulture at Niagara College. I have dragged Daniel to taste wines in places all around the world, including the wonderful wineries in our own back yard (and I've yet to hear one complaint!)

I, Daniel St-Jean, was born in Montreal in the 50’s. I’m French-Canadian on my dad’s side and Italian on my mother’s side (her dad, Rodolpho Solari, came to Canada as a young man in 1910, from Sardinia). So yes, I’m a babyboomer, which means I grew up using landline telephones, watched B&W TV (4 channels until the mid-60’s), listened to music on vinyls (I still own 900 of them) and did my banking during banker’s hours—10 to 3, five days a week and no ATM. Man things have changed since those crazy 60’s! But that was an interesting decade and sometimes I feel sorry for the millennials because they missed one heck of an era. Lots of bad stuff…yes, but lots of good stuff too. And the music…Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, Hendrix, Doors, Janis Joplin, Santana, CCR, Joe Cocker, Cream, Animals, Moody Blues…and I got to see all of them live. I moved to Whitehorse YT in 1981 and I lived there till 1994 when I moved back to Montreal after staying a year in White Rock BC. Lots of nature to photograph up North, but also lots of business opportunities (see my business profile below). In 1986, I worked as the site supervisor for the Yukon Pavilion for the six months of EXPO-86 in Vancouver. That was an awesomsational experience! And that was my last gig as an employee because when I returned to Whitehorse in the fall, I acquired a business and became an entrepreneur. And never looked back. I met Laurel Simmons on March-3-2003 and 24 weeks later we were married. Undoubtedly the best decision I've made in my life! Currently, I live in Niagara-on-the-Lake where I moved in 2014 from Ottawa so my wonderful wife could go back to school full time at Niagara College to take their Winery & Viticulture program. And shortly after she received her certification as a winemaker in 2015, she wanted to go to Florence Italy to get another degree related to wine…so I volunteered to go with her and that month in Italy and Southern France was amazincredible! Wine is a big part of our lives now. I love whites, particularly Sauvignon Blanc from New-Zealand and Torontel from Chile, and for reds, my favorites are Carmenere from Chile, Malbec from Argentina, Tempranillo from Spain and Pinotage from South Africa. And let’s not forget a glass of cold rose is on a hot summer day! Other interests? Writing. I wrote two books that sold LOTS of copies, one in 1992 entitled And Where Will They Build That Alcan Highway?, and a 586-page brick released in 2005 entitled Milk & Cookies for Success (a business book about networking and marketing). And reading…especially history, also watching good shows (Numbers, Frasier, The Good Wife…) and watching movies on our big screen… Oh and of course driving my exciting Magnum STR-8 around here on the deserted concession roads just to hear its sweet purring—Wild Thing, your sweet purring makes my heart sing! That was my birthday present from me to me for that special birthday last October…you the know the kind…where you change decade and your age now has a zero in the number… And of course traveling—that is my big WHY—though right now we are pretty limited because of the pandemic, but you watch us pack suitcases and head to the airport the minute it will be safe to travel again… PROFESSIONAL PROFILE Over the years, I’ve been a salesperson in a camera store, a professional photographer (first it was fashion, then I married a model so I became a sport and nature photographer…). I’ve been a tour guide, a courier, a taxi driver, a proof-reader, a sales rep. For 3 years in the early eighties, I was the private contractor for a National Historic Site in Whitehorse. I’ve owned an art gallery and framing shop in Whitehorse, I started and operated for many years in the 90’s a publishing company specializing in calendars, art cards and educational coloring books. In the mid-2000’s in Ottawa, I ran with Laurel a company called The BizzBoosters Inc. that taught people and businesses—even university students—how to be better at networking and how to market themselves more efficiently. And now I’m a licensed realtor for eXp Realty…but mostly I’m a real estate investor and because I love helping other people succeed, I came up in the fall of 2016 with the idea of starting this awesome community called The REITE Club.
